The Greek landscape is an alternation of the rocky Mountains, densely populated valleys, numerous islands, passages and bays. These are mainly medium-altitude mountains (to 1200-1800 m). The highest point of Greece - Olympe's mountain (2917 m). Higher than 2000 meters rise also Pindus, Parnassus, a mountain chain in the north of Peloponnese and Tayget. There isn't enough plains, they are concentrated in east half of the country, except for Peloponnese where plains prevail on the western coast.

In Greece there are over 20 lakes of 10-100 sq.km. The largest and deepest from them have a tectonic origin. 

Greece is included into the Mediterranean climatic zone, in the summer there aren't enough rains, but in the winter pass heavy rains. Average water temperature in summer is +27 C. The most favorable time for a trip to Greece - the end of April - the middle of June or the beginning of September - the end of October.

Probably, any trip to Greece can't do without shopping. Shops work all days of the week, except Sunday, from 8.00 till 13.30 and in addition from 17.30 till 20.30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays here. Supermarkets work all days of the week, except Sunday, from 8.00 to 18.00 or 19.00 without break for a lunch. In Greece the prices for the majority of goods are lower, than in other countries of Western Europe, an exception make only the electronic devices, home appliances and cars. Duty free shops have a sign: "Hellenic Duty Free Shop".

They accept for payment both drachmas and convertible currency. In the markets and in small shops it is possible to bargain, especially upon purchase of several goods. Sale of winter clothes takes place in January-February, summer sale - in August-September.

Many Russians combine rest in Greece with shop tour for a fur coat. While purchase of a fur coat it is necessary to receive two sales receits. In receits has to be specified surname and a name of the buyer, the name of a product and its cost in local currency. It is more beneficial to buy a fur coat at large factory or in shops. In this case at departure from Greece there will be no complications at customs.

It is rather simple to hire a car in Greece, the rental cost depends on a season, a class of the car and flow of tourists. It is necessary to have the international driving license, the age of driver shouldn't be less than 25 years and no more than 70 years, a driver's experience from three years and more.

Existence of a credit card will be required everywhere, except island part of Greece. In private car rental offices the requirements are slightly simpler. When you are going to rent a car in Greece, it is necessary to examine attentively conditions of the insurance policy: it has to cover damage of the third party, to extend on theft of the car, and also not have the franchize.
